When we first started house swapping, I thought it would be about travel & adventure.
About seeing new places, waking up to a different view, stretching my creativity while keeping things simple and affordable.
But it’s become something far deeper.
There’s this moment — always — when we find the key & first walk through the door of someone else’s home.
The scent of their candles, the books on their shelves, the art chosen with love.
The rhythm of a family we’ve never met, yet somehow feel connected to.
And in that moment, I feel a quiet kind of joy.
Like I’ve been invited to experience life through another lens.
It’s not about perfection.
Sometimes the bed creaks, the oven is different to ours, or we can't find where they’ve hidden the tea.
But these small quirks are what make it real.
There’s beauty in noticing how other people live — what they prioritise, how they create comfort, what they choose to display.
It reminds me that “home” isn’t a fixed place.
It’s a feeling — one we can carry with us, and one we can co-create with others.
Each swap leaves a quiet imprint.
I come home with new ideas — how they arranged their kitchen shelves, a new recipe I found in their cookbook, the way they have set up their room... even a new condiment I had never tried before.
These small gestures feel like whispers of inspiration.
And as much as I love exploring new landscapes, it’s this exchange of care and the experiencing of humanity that feels most profound.
House swapping has become a creative, human experience — one that stretches me, grounds me, and constantly reminds me of the goodness in people.
It’s an exercise in trust.
In generosity.
In seeing beauty in the everyday, again and again.
